40 Days of Prayer
Prayer is more than saying; “God help or God do this” There are nine main types of prayer listed in the Bible.
- Prayers of faith.
James 5:15 …and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
So when you pray, pray in faith!
- Corporate prayer
Acts 2:42 They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Look for opportunities to pray with others.
- Prayer requests (petition or supplication)
Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Take requests before the Lord.
- Prayers of thanksgiving
Psalms 95:2-3 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God And a great King above all gods,
Let this prayer always be at the beginning, middle and end of ALL of our prayers.
- Prayer of worship
Acts 13:2-3 While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
Minister… worship God through prayer.
- Prayer of consecration or dedication
Matthew 26:39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.”
Praying with the resolve that all you do will glorify God and accomplish His will.
- Prayer of intercession
1 Timothy 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men.
Pray on the behalf of the saints, your fellow believers.
- Prayer of Imprecation
This is a hard one and is found in the Psalms. Using imprecatory prayers from the Psalms today should only be done against our spiritual enemies.
- Pray in the Spirit
1 Corinthians 14:14-15 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.
Press in and allow the Holy Spirit form the very words in your mouth and guide your prayer.
Then we conclude with the word “amen” meaning Let it be, or so be it..
Praying in Jesus’ name, means praying with His authority and asking God the Father to act upon our prayers because we come in the name of His Son, Jesus.
Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
This doesn’t mean Jesus name is the end all, a magic incantation. It means that we recognize the promises in Gods word and His authority over every situation in our lives.
In Jesus name, amen!
